{"id":9014,"date":"2024-02-02T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/naistefysio.ee\/uncategorized\/4trimester\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T09:08:52","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T07:08:52","slug":"4trimester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naistefysio.ee\/en\/rasedus\/4trimester\/","title":{"rendered":"Fourth Trimester &#8211; Recommendations"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"9014\" class=\"elementor elementor-9014 elementor-70\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42fc6e2e e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"42fc6e2e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cd94ebe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cd94ebe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"295\" data-end=\"561\">The postpartum fourth trimester is a transition period when the body and mind adapt to a new phase of life: recovery from childbirth, adapting to breastfeeding and sleep deprivation, and the new role as a mother.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"295\" data-end=\"561\">This is a time when the body needs rest, support, and conscious recovery.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"568\" data-end=\"603\"><strong data-start=\"572\" data-end=\"603\">General Recovery Recommendations<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>General recovery recommendations after childbirth are as follows:<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"653\"><strong data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"653\">Ice Pack for Swelling and Pain Relief:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"831\">Within the first 48 hours, use a cold pack in the perineal area as often as possible, while sitting or resting.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"831\">Do not place the cold pack directly on the skin \u2013 use a thin cloth in between.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"833\" data-end=\"879\"><strong data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"879\">Bidet Shower or Water Bottle for Urination:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"1137\">If urination is painful or stinging, use a water bottle or bidet shower to rinse the intimate area.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"1137\">This relieves stinging and helps cleanse lochia (postpartum bleeding), which lasts 6\u20138 weeks.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"1137\">Instead of wiping with paper, pat the area dry.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1139\" data-end=\"1188\"><strong data-start=\"1144\" data-end=\"1188\">Using the Toilet in an Ergonomic Position:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1189\" data-end=\"1294\">Place your feet on a low stool to achieve an optimal angle for the rectum and reduce pressure on the pelvic floor.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1296\" data-end=\"1339\"><strong data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1339\">Moving Slowly and Consciously:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1516\">When getting up from a lying position, first turn onto your side and use your hand to push yourself up to a sitting position.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1516\">If sitting is painful (e.g., due to tears or stitches), get out of bed by moving into an all-fours position.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1518\" data-end=\"1551\"><strong data-start=\"1523\" data-end=\"1551\">Avoid Heavy Lifting:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1552\" data-end=\"1789\">For the first three months, avoid lifting anything heavier than your baby. Before lifting your baby, consciously engage your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1552\" data-end=\"1789\">If you must lift heavy objects, use an abdominal support belt, exhale, and keep your muscles engaged.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1552\" data-end=\"1789\">If you feel pressure in your pelvis or perineum, lie down and place a pillow under your buttocks to reduce the pressure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1899\" data-end=\"1993\"><strong data-start=\"1899\" data-end=\"1906\">Important!<\/strong> Breathing is the foundation of recovery \u2013 do not hold your breath during any activity or exertion.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2000\" data-end=\"2029\"><strong data-start=\"2004\" data-end=\"2029\">Daily Life and Rest<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul data-start=\"2031\" data-end=\"2817\">\n<li data-start=\"2031\" data-end=\"2217\">\n<p data-start=\"2033\" data-end=\"2217\"><strong data-start=\"2033\" data-end=\"2054\">Rest consciously.<\/strong> Sleeping with your baby is essential for recovery. Do not use all of your baby&#8217;s sleep time for cleaning and household chores \u2013 this increases mental and physical exhaustion. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2219\" data-end=\"2350\">\n<p data-start=\"2221\" data-end=\"2350\"><strong data-start=\"2221\" data-end=\"2243\">Drink enough water<\/strong> (2\u20133 liters per day), especially if you are breastfeeding. This supports tissue healing, metabolism, and breast milk production. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2352\" data-end=\"2519\">\n<p data-start=\"2354\" data-end=\"2519\"><strong data-start=\"2354\" data-end=\"2381\">Nutrition and Digestion.<\/strong> Eat fiber-rich foods; if necessary, take calcium and magnesium to support muscle and nervous system function and prevent constipation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2521\" data-end=\"2698\">\n<p data-start=\"2523\" data-end=\"2698\"><strong data-start=\"2523\" data-end=\"2559\">Use the toilet every 2\u20133 hours<\/strong>, even if you don&#8217;t feel the urge. Avoid straining and practice relaxing breaths. If necessary, use a bidet shower or let water run from the tap.  <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2700\" data-end=\"2817\">\n<p data-start=\"2702\" data-end=\"2817\">Avoid strenuous household chores (e.g., vacuuming, lifting a heavy laundry basket or stroller). <strong data-start=\"2804\" data-end=\"2817\">Ask for help.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"2824\" data-end=\"2869\"><strong data-start=\"2828\" data-end=\"2869\">Movement \u2013 From the Very First Days<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2871\" data-end=\"3033\">The body needs movement for effective healing. If your doctor or midwife has given permission, start moving immediately \u2013 even with slow walks in the ward or at home. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3035\" data-end=\"3205\">Even if walking, getting up from a chair, or turning onto your side is initially painful, regular, moderate movement helps prevent muscle stiffness, swelling, and circulatory problems.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3212\" data-end=\"3249\"><strong data-start=\"3216\" data-end=\"3249\">First Restorative Exercises<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3251\" data-end=\"3351\">Start with pelvic floor exercises as early as 24\u201348 hours after a natural and uncomplicated birth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3353\" data-end=\"3451\">If 3rd or 4th-degree tears occurred, consult a pelvic floor physiotherapist before starting.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3353\" data-end=\"3451\">A prior postpartum check-up with a midwife is not a prerequisite for an appointment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3353\" data-end=\"3451\">You can come to Naistefysio for an appointment as early as 3 weeks after childbirth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3453\" data-end=\"3485\"><strong data-start=\"3453\" data-end=\"3485\">Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"3487\" data-end=\"3827\">\n<li data-start=\"3487\" data-end=\"3557\">\n<p data-start=\"3489\" data-end=\"3557\"><strong data-start=\"3489\" data-end=\"3504\">Starting position:<\/strong> Lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat on the floor.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3558\" data-end=\"3684\">\n<p data-start=\"3560\" data-end=\"3684\"><strong data-start=\"3560\" data-end=\"3573\">Exercise:<\/strong> As you exhale, contract your pelvic floor muscles (as if holding in urine and gas); as you inhale, relax.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3827\">\n<p data-start=\"3687\" data-end=\"3827\"><strong data-start=\"3687\" data-end=\"3699\">Duration:<\/strong> Start with 3\u20135 minutes per day. Then, perform 5 quick contractions and relaxations, 10 repetitions. Each week, add 1 until you reach 10&#215;10 repetitions.  <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"4514\" data-end=\"4552\"><strong data-start=\"4518\" data-end=\"4552\">What is normal and what is not?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4554\" data-end=\"4606\"><strong data-start=\"4554\" data-end=\"4606\">During the 4th trimester, the following complaints may occur:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4607\" data-end=\"4735\">\n<li data-start=\"4607\" data-end=\"4642\">\n<p data-start=\"4609\" data-end=\"4642\">Protruding\/Bulging Abdomen<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4643\" data-end=\"4680\">\n<p data-start=\"4645\" data-end=\"4680\">Urinary, Gas, or Fecal Incontinence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4681\" data-end=\"4711\">\n<p data-start=\"4683\" data-end=\"4711\">Pelvic Heaviness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4712\" data-end=\"4735\">\n<p data-start=\"4714\" data-end=\"4735\">Back or Hip Pain<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4737\" data-end=\"4939\">\u2757 If symptoms persist for longer than 3 months, consult a women&#8217;s health physiotherapist.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4737\" data-end=\"4939\">Studies show that without rehabilitation, these problems may not recover spontaneously.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4946\" data-end=\"4988\"><strong data-start=\"4950\" data-end=\"4988\">What to Avoid in the First Three Months?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul data-start=\"4990\" data-end=\"5275\">\n<li data-start=\"4990\" data-end=\"5136\">\n<p data-start=\"4992\" data-end=\"5136\">Intense Workouts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5137\" data-end=\"5275\">\n<p data-start=\"5139\" data-end=\"5189\">Start with lighter exercises\/workouts and progress gradually.
