The very first step – and a crucial part of all subsequent treatment stages, regardless of the treatment method or type of prolapse – is pelvic floor physiotherapy.

The ligaments and muscles of the pelvic floor hold a woman’s pelvic organs in place: the uterus, bladder, and bowel. If these supporting structures are weakened or damaged, the organs may descend from their usual position, causing various complaints. Often, the primary symptom is a feeling of discomfort or pressure in the vagina, which may worsen during the day, especially after physical activity. In some cases, a descended cervix or vaginal wall can be felt with fingers at the vaginal entrance during washing. Depending on the prolapse, there may also be urinary leakage, nocturnal urination, a feeling of obstruction when emptying the bladder, as well as difficulties with bowel emptying.

Prolapse is not dangerous, but it can significantly affect a woman’s daily life and quality of life.

Often, there is skepticism towards pelvic floor physiotherapy because quick results are expected. The effect of the treatment manifests gradually, and success depends on how motivated the woman herself is to address the problem and consistently follow the instructions. Physiotherapy is not a “quick fix,” but a process that supports the body’s natural recovery and helps improve quality of life in the long run.
